Backpack journalism these days commonly refers to multitasking journalists who work solo, juggling between camera, notebook and microphone to cover a wide range of beats on the fly.
In this session, you’ll get a sense of its evolution and future through the eyes of a 30-year veteran who has written a book on the field. You’ll learn from another journalist who was able to make a living covering the Iraq and Afghanistan wars in print, radio and the Web thanks to an ability to adapt, an entrepreneurial mind set and a presence of mind to find and report the story wherever, and whenever, it took her.
The session will be moderated by Cheryl Wills, an anchor and reporter at NY1 News, a pioneer in backpack journalism.
